The design of the hull for new Solar Boat will be based on the 2010 boat. Within the project I will be responsible for hull design and the optimization to weight and stability. This subject is very much in line with my study: Maritime Engineering. So this project gives me the opportunity to put the theory into practice.

Just like the boat of 2010, the boat of 2012 will have hydrofoils in order to have a low drag at high velocities. Together with Martijn Tra, I will design, produce and test the hydrofoils of the new boat; which fits properly to my aerospace engineering studies.

The drive mechanism of our boat is located in the casing under it, the so-called POD. Within this project I am responsible for the design of the POD and for the optimization of weight and functionality. This is in line with my study Mechanical Engineering. Furthermore I take care of the electronics in this specific part of the boat, in close cooperation with Martijn Breet. Besides that, Roel and I will be in charge of the public relations.

In this team, I have several jobs to fulfil.
My mean occupation will be the design of a light weight construction, which is strong enough to endure the different forces on the boat. Furthermore, I will take care of the strategy. Although the last mentioned tasks are not a part of my study Aerospace Engineering, I am sure this project will be a great experience. Finally, I will fulfil the job as Chief Engineer.

The upcoming year I will be responsible for all the actions taken with respect to the solar cells. Like any other year it will be a great challenge to design a suitable solar system. In addition, I will take care of the public relations and media along with Eric. Many different parties will be involved. This is a useful experience for me, being an Industrial Designer.

An important rise in the development of boats is the use of hydrofoils. Michael and I will use our knowledge, acquired in our study Aerospace Engineering for the development of this innovative design. In the team Tjerk and I will deal with the financial side of the project and Sven, Martijn Breet and I will cover the strategy provision for the Solar Boat.
